And spare my people—this is my request.  For I and my people have been sold to be destroyed, killed and annihilated. If we had merely been sold as male and female slaves, I would have kept quiet, because no such distress would justify disturbing the king. " Esther 7:3-4 TREES Refraction is the bending of light (it can happen with sound, water and other waves) as it passes from one transparent substance into another.  Trees are a passion for me especially in winter just as spring hits. The spirit and the shape of branches of each tree is unique.  The painting was to celebrate the beauty of the design of the bra

There were not many people there. Today if you go on Sunday afternoon,  you could not stir them with a stick.  I had my canon camera with me and got some delightful shots of people being people.    My favorite photo I took that day was of an older woman carrying a basket with flowers in it. Looked like she bought them somewhere on the grounds or brought them in for photos to be taken. She had a large straw hat.  The next group I

Beneath I began laying up a few canvas this morning in between running errands, cooking, moving china and cleaning out drawers. Things are always shifting when you least expect it. It is late tonight, already past six. I always used to blog at 6:30 am each morning. Not sure I could get here then, I am on the treadmill each morning by  6:30 doing my 3-4 miles. Usually walk at least 45 min and just trying to squeeze a faster walk in.  I have been in touch with another painter I have know for many years, Elizabeth Chapman. She is an awesome artist and I own  three of her paintings now.  She took a small break from working about the same time I did, and I am still redefining and shifting, wanting to get back to the pleasure of the journey and not

'Thirteen Trees' Landscape by Laurie Pace

'Thirteen Trees' 18 x 27 inches Oil/Acrylic on Canvas Contact me to purchase: Laurie The Painting: From a workshop tape and experimental at best and harder than you think to work backwards for me. In all my 27 years of teaching of working back to front this one was opposite. The blues and purples actually covered the canvas first. The first layer of those colors is acrylic. Then I put in the sky in light blues leaving the contrast shapes. Next step was to put in color on the trunks. I switched to oils on the sky and trunks and then again on the ground as I laid in the colors of purples and blues. The Thought: Working backwards. Well the models are put away. I said a prayer reminding God of how He fed the 5000 and asked if we could somehow manage to get the 5000 models into the closet. The collection has grown over the past two years. I only say working backwards as this is the same closet I unpacked them in 22 months ago when we moved here. Terry packed them up and m
TREES By Laurie Justus Pace 11 x 14 Oil on Linen Board Contact me to purchase and mention title of the painting! Laurie Becoming....Did you ever reflect on the word becoming? I received this photo from a young artist that wanted one of my paintings and her parents bought it for her. The photo was accompanied by : Gracie, age 9, loves Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and now, Laurie Pace. She is so excited to own an original piece of art and hopes to add more in the future. Much like her favorite paintings by Picasso and Matisse, Gracie loves the bold bright colors in "Can't see the forest because of the trees". Thanks, Laurie, for fueling her enthusiasm! Becoming. It is such a fruitful word full of hope. Reminds me of caterpillars cocooning to become butterflies, or of cookie dough becoming soft chewy cookies. Becoming. To a young child it fills their heart with dreams of what is to be. What can be accomplished and had in their life. They are so tantalized by t.v. and
UNDER THE BLUE TREE Tree Landscape by Laurie Justus Pace 18 x 24 inches of THICK palette knife pulls of color. SOLD Under The Blue Tree April 17, 2008 Laurie Justus Pace Excerpt from book THE ART OF LIFE to be released Fall 2008 At five o’clock you will find me under the blue tree. We all have days that seem to never end, with events that make us Question why we even got out of bed that day. This is when you will find me listening to the birds as I sit under the Blue Tree. The Blue Tree is an older tree with heavy bark. You can Close your eyes and feel the energy of its years. My world becomes still. Slowly I regain my balance Sitting under the Blue Tree. My easel is calling me! I painted hard and heavy yesterday and want to hit it this morning. I made the decision yesterday to use part of my writings along with my art work to publish a book which will be available this fall. I will note every painting used in the book by some type of verse under it, like the posting is today. Th
CRAB APPLE TREE BLOOMS Landscape by Laurie Justus Pace 15 x 30 inches, Oil on Canvas SOLD Wow, yesterday was an active painting day! This is one I finished up and I love painting Texas Oaks, but in the spring, the Crab Trees bloom with beautiful pink blooms. This is my impression of the crab tree in bloom. Even Crab Trees do more than "Crab". This can be said about people too. I know everyone has one of those in their lives. The complainer. They are always complaining about everything. We often grow weary of being around them and make excuses not to be. In actuality you might find if you give some attention and demonstrate a happier more positive attitude around them you might see them relax. Dig around and smile at them and offer up a true compliment to them. My hunch is folks like this are unhappy inside and the only blooms that come out are negative blooms and thoughts. Perhaps with a little prayer and some TLC you could bring some light and love into their lives.
LAST LEAVES ~ Fall Landscape by Laurie Justus Pace 18 x 24 inches Oil on Linen Panel Contemporary Art for the Home Contact me to purchase. $125 Laurie Pace As we pack up our home in Justin, I did one last painting of the leaves turning on the trees around me. There will be trees and leaves where we are moving, but not much land to look out on. Last night we took a load over to my mom's house. Basically boxes of china and crystal and paintings that have to be mailed next week. As we loaded the boxes...note I say we. Terry has to do the lifting of the boxes I packed, and of course they were heavy. He grunted and groaned under their weight and I scurried scooting dogs out of the way and opening and closing the doors to the garage as he passed through. The boxes fit snuggly in my daughter's SUV. (I traded my VW to her for the week.) The last box Terry carried out put me into a fit of laughter. He had picked up the box and began to walk. Somewhere the box hooked onto a spool
THE PATH 8 x 16 inches Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Contemporary Art Oil Paintings Daily Wednesday with rain east of us. We are dry so we will be watering later. I need and want to paint this morning. Too much time spent away from my studio! This painting is a colorful one full of life... I will be doing more of these collage of colors! Reminds me of the quilt we unearthed at Terry's dad's home...made by his grandmother probably in the sixties from the fabrics on the quilt. BRIGHT blues, yellows, oranges, reds etc. The quilt makes you smile when you look at it. So does this painting. No room for the blues or depression. Terry and I were reading in the Bible this morning out of Acts and then we read Jonah. Such an interesting story and conflict going on in Jonah for those sailors on the boat...what to do with the troublemaker Jonah who brought the anger of the Lord on them. Do you ever feel that way in life? I do. There are some folks that really rile me to the point th
LAKE SIDE 11 x 14 inches Oil on Panel A Painting a Day Monday Monday...horses are on my easel but not this post! Three horse heads drawn on last month but not painted yet...but they are ready to come to life. This painting was from the trip...a piece painted from Colorado. Beautiful color and contrast in this capture of light and beauty...or at least my attempt at it! The Lord's beauty shines so brightly I know I barely do it justice. Today is shipping and the bug man is coming to spray. We use ECO SAFE out of Dallas and it is basically ORANGE OIL etc. I do not use chemicals in my home. Then it is off to FedEX. Terry has one week left of vacation. I am so glad he is not working in this heat. Saturday we had the dogs groomed. We have been trying to keep them clean and fighting the summer muck outside. It dawned on me this morning that Annie is older than I am. She is 8 this month...makes her 56. I need to find her bed, Terry was washing them on Sat but they have not show
Early Morning Wyoming 11 x 14 inches Oil on Panel A Painting a Day SOLD There will be some small paintings from the trip here and there...I hope you enjoy them. Most are on panel board and all have thick paint. This one is in colors that are not normally in my palette. An old barn that was next to a small pond, the house was actually to the right further but out of my view. Reclaiming your worthiness is important to your heath and your family. The world we live in today beats us down on a daily basis. Time spent in prayer and reflection with God offers us the time to rejuvenate and find our centering. In this time we are healed...if we let go and let God. Shalom, Laurie “When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said, ‘Woman, you are set free from your ailment.’” —Luke 13:12
Early Fall 11 x 14 inches Oil on Panel A Painting a Day SOLD My thoughts are to fall already! BUT I cannot complain with the temps as they have been in our region, but for painting I am always thinking color. We were in and out of Dallas fast yesterday...had to tend to something at home that came up quickly. We have family with surgery next Tuesday and are in the prelims of getting things ready. We are suppose to leave for Wyoming a day after that so I pray all goes well. We will be in Colorado the next week and I will be painting from there! YEAH....and taking tons of pictures. I heard from Barbie, that was visiting from Salt Lake City. She had the horror tale of the trip home with a delay that kept her a full day from reaching home. I enjoyed our visit so much! Wish she lived closer, we would definitely be active together on a daily basis. TODAY is Conni Tögel's birthday, so I have to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Wish we were together to share a glass of wine and some cake. Remember
REFLECTIONS 15 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day COLOR COLOR COLOR abounds in this impressionistic landscape that shouts to me JOY and GLORY in God's creation! A wide brush loaded and wiped with thick oils creates the texture and impressions in this one. Today we get to sit and watch our youngest son load the uhaul with boxes we packed before we were in the car accident. They are going into storage to par down the clutter in the house as we put it on the market with MUCH PRAYER today. I am NOT looking forward to the trip across Dallas pulling the uhaul. Yesterday we attended classes with Covenant Kids. The education they give should be passed out to ALL new parents. Terry and I have learned so much in these sessions. Yesterday we learned a restrain hold that really doesn't hurt. It will take practice to get it down, but we figured it would work on any person if you so needed it. Off to fix breakfast! Have a wonderful day and celebrate life today. Harmonize with
Trees on the Trail Oil on Board 6 X 6 inches Click here to buy. $89.00 A Painting A Day It is dark, but the sun should be up soon. It was quite a night as the first storms blew through around six. It was a squall that pushed through in about 15 minutes and the sun came out! BUT there were tornadoes bouncing around the area. About 8 p.m. as the news continued to cover the storm moving toward the east...the wind picked up and it grew greenly dark outside again. The dogs were going CRAZY. A second storm hit out of nowhere and we lost power. I phoned my daughter on my cell phone and asked her to check the computer radar...and sure enough a back cell was pushing through. I spent the evening reading a book with my huge 48 hour cell flashlight and Terry was connected to a movie on his IPOD. When we went to bed we shared the IPOD with each of us plugged into an ear clip! It was Julie Andrews in Hawaii. It appears still cloudy outside this morning. The power is back on and I am eager t
